Dare I mention that swarming is an element of mob behavior...

So is "feeding frenzy", which has been used of the MSM for years.

There is no law of nature which keeps either bloggers or journalists from acting like a mob, or being malicious or hysterical. So far this year, bloggers are acting better, but maybe it's just because they are new at the game, and haven't so much of their own egos invested it in yet. They haven't had time to get puffed up and lazy.

However, corruption works the same for bloggers as for journalists. They too could agree to pile on in one place and not cover another, and not to wash each other's dirty laundry in public. But the thing that will make it harder for a network of bloggers to get away with this behavior in future, than it was for a network of journalists to do so in the past, is ease of access - it is so easy to invent new blogs, whole new networks of blogs, and to get eyeballs to look at them.

It's hard to imagine that if the current crop of bloggers becomes complacent, that some new set of bloggers won't do unto them what they have been doing unto MSM...
