Valentine's day is coming up.
Some thoughts on things to do for kids and husbands would be fun.
I'll start.
I plan on making raspberry scones shaped into hearts for my family for V day. Am also serving special eggs n'toast also shaped like hearts. For eggs n' toast all you need to do is to take several eggs, and a stack of bread (for V-day, cut in to hearts), start several eggs cooking- I usually do 3 at a time. When the egg is getting white, slap a piece of bread down on the egg. Let it cook until firm (if that's the way you like your eggs.) Then one by one, lift the bread on to a spatula, pour an egg on to the griddle, let it set white, and put the bare side of the bread back down on to the egg. You end up with a tasty piece of bread fried with egg on both sides. My kids just love these. You can also make a hole in the middle of the bread and fry the egg in there, but with a heart shaped piece of bread I think the first method is best.
For best results I have the eggs ready to go for the second side of the toast.
I remember one V day I spelled out "I love YOU" in Gingerbread on the counter for my husband. And of course, gingerbread Valentine's Day houses are a lot of fun to make with the kids. I have some historic molds of famous houses, and we have a blast decorating them for holidays. If the kids want to do that this year, we might do that too.
I think it's fun to leave a little gift on the kids' beds. This year I got them Jelly Belly heart shaped gift boxes. It's small, because I don't want them having too much sugar- but it says "I love you, and I'm thinking of you." Also, make sure to put a V-day cookie in the lunch bag. I found some that are just like the conversation hearts- only giant. VERY cute! |
