Mary, what do you mean by "stand up to" these petty tyrants and prevaricators [Huh? Prevaricators?]

<Who are you guys to decide who is bad enough that you have to kill?>

Surely "stand up to" means confront without being simply beaten back or tossed into a lime pit. Those 'prevarictors' don't take kindly to opposition. They use physical disassembly on those who oppose them.

It's foolish to "stand up to" them without having suitable weapons which overcome the "prevaricators".

So you are in favour of "standing up to" but not in favour of the stander uppers deciding who to stand up to. I guess that means YOU will do the deciding about who those "standing up" should defeat. That's called conscription, aka slavery, which should be stood up to with all force.

No time for more rant on the rest just now. Though I note a miscreant apostrophe which I hereby stand up to: <It is the next generation Arthur Miller's that have broken ranks>

I deny I flirt with the 'dark side'. I am all for peace, light, harmony, happiness, health, prosperity, longevity, fun and love. Sometimes, wayward people can be brought back on track, with care, attention and persuasion. I'm still trying with Yiwu the Mad, but she seems bent on megalomania and murder. Those who do not wish to be enslaved by such people, must stand up to them or have the yoke of serfdom cast upon their necks. But I'm sure she'll see the light; the CDMA phragmented photons of cyberspace will enlighten her dark heart.
