Although, I think we should be drilling in Alask and elsewhere, I think that is only a short term solution. What we need is radically reduced consumption. We should make fuel cell, electric, and hybrid auto technology the norm, not the fringe. In addition, I think we should tax gasoline to raise the money for research to reduce consumption. Let's make it more expensive. Make buying gasoline punitive and people will voluntarily reduce their consumption. Then use the tax revenues to provide incentives for consumers to buy fuel efficient vehicles and to provide research grants to autocompanies to develop the proper technologies. If we launched a Manhattan Project to reduce our oil consumption by 50% within 10 years, I believe we could do it. But we don't have the political will, because Bush is an oil man. That bothers me. We're making Saudi and Iran rich, which fuels MORE terrorism not less.
