re:100mpg carburettor

I had a book one time, but can't find it.

From what I remember, gasoline vapor explodes in the cylinder creating power. Carburettors of the day (1970s) converted only about 10-20% of the gasoline used into vapor by compression of the engine and a smaller percentage by mixing with air in the intake manifold. The rest of the gasoline only burns and provides no energy. Fuel injection increases your percentage which we know by today's vehicles.

So the idea is, to dramatically boost fuel mileage, convert 100% of the gasoline to vapor before it reaches the cylinder. Simple as that. The problems are it takes heat and pressure and gasoline vapor is pretty powerful when it explodes. So, the idea is still there, but safety issues exist. Enthusiasts that tried it reported about a double of gas mileage and a few were killed before the interests died out. Some say big oil bought it all and tabled it....(enter name of favorite conspiracy kook here)

If you search the internet, you'll see both sides of the issue. Some say it's true and others say it's all a hoax.

I'm not an automotive engineer, so I don't know.
