I think Bosworth is a hands on webservices guy though. If he is in a leadership position at GOOG, he will probably deliver. The problem comes in when some star guy is asked to participate on a TEAM of other stars. That hardly ever works. All this aside though, the fact is that GOOG is the only game in town for the very top engineering talent. Its the only place you can make any really serious money on stock, its one of the few companies hiring, and they have a lot of appealing perks. So, all this means is goog has the first crack at the best people\, but thats as good as it gets really- as you have pointed out.
