Iran has not been negotiating in good faith for over 3 years now

Like any other country, yours included, Iran "negotiates" for the benefit of its own people. That this sometimes includes lying, cheating, and defying international law and order should not come as a singular surprise to someone who has watched the Bush administration lie and cheat and defy the UN in order to invade Iraq, among other things.

Previously, there was little reason for any non-aggressive country to covet nuclear weapons, because there was widespread respect for sovereignty. Not anymore, unfortunately. In today's world, where the only superpower of the world can and will attack whomever it wants with no real reason and definitely no imminent threat to itself, it is entirely reasonable for all countries on this world to want and acquire nukes. Especially a country who has already been designated "evil" and part of that infamous "axis of evil". Out of the only other two countries on that "axis", Iraq (who did not have nukes) got bombasted to kingdom come, and N. Korea (who did have nukes) got only a couple of harsh words but no invasion. Don't think the lesson is lost on anyone, especially the third country on that axis: "Get nukes quick, if you don't want to be invaded".

In short, it is entirely understandable that Iran wants and will get nuclear power, and there is nothing you or anyone else can do about it. They can mine uranium in their own territory, for God's sake. Blame Bush and his aggressive warmongering for the fact that Iran suddenly decided in the last couple of years that they want nuclear power.

The difference between Pakistan and Iran is that Iran poses a direct threat of proliferation, whereas Pakistan has been controlled

Is that what US media says these days? :-)

The reality is quite different. Iran has not been selling nuclear technology to anybody. Pakistan, on the other hand, has been CAUGHT exporting nuclear technology.

A. Q. Khan, the father of Pakistan's nuclear bomb, has admitted to selling nuclear technology to Iran and Libya, including a nuclear bomb.

Now, are you REALLY sure that Pakistan is "controlled" and is does not "pose a threat of proliferation"?

their dictator is our ally... I don't like it that we have to ally ourselves with dictators, but a benign dictator does not pose a threat to the American people, at least in the short term.

Gee, is that blatant hypocrisy? I thought dictators were A Very Bad Thing. I thought Bush was bringing freedom to the peoples of this earth. I thought ridding Iraq of a dictator was the reason why US/UK forces killed about 100,000 Iraqis and counting.

This is what I mean by thinking for yourself rather than swallowing whole everything you are fed by Fox TV and CNN. Stuff that THEY, in turn, are fed by your government.

When faced with your government's obvious hostility to Iran, you should be able to think and ask, "Wait a minute. Why are we going after Iran, which is far more democratic (at least there are elections) and does not have nuclear weapons, when there is Pakistan, ruled by a military dictator, infested with Al-Qaeda training camps, AND known to be proliferating nuclear technology to hostile countries???".

If you manage to ask that question, I think we could have a much more interesting conversation on this subject.
