My family of 5 dines at home for about $23 for three squares a day, tax and tip included <g>. One single dinner at our local burger joint is $30, 65-70 at the local Mexican place, and about a 100 dollars at the great seafood place on the waterfront if we let the kids starve. What I've noticed is that for years, the grocery store inflation was muted, and indeed, when I owned a local grocery stock in the late 80's to early 90's (QFC) they routinely stated in their annual report that prices had deflated about 1% per year. Restaurants otoh had continued inflation due to labor, energy, leases, and insurance. The gap may be closing some this year, but it escalated for many years.
