Chicken breasts on sale last week for .69 a veritable steal!
I buy 12 packs of diet squirt on sale for $2.50
30 packs of miller beer are 11.50
Center cut Pork chops on sale are $1.99 or so, sometimes less
10 lbs of potatoes on sale all the time for $2 or so
Costco has great individually wrapped salmon filets that we buy but I can not tell you the price unfortunately - I do not have the card - wife does
If you like tuna or salmon buy lots of cans when they are on sale. Sometimes 50% off or better
Sirloin tip roasts are on sale 2 for 1 all the time for average of $1.79-$2.00 lb
Country style ribs on sale quite often for under $1 lb
Whole chickens on sale all the time for .69 or less
Round steak on sale for $1.69 or so
1 lb box of spagetti - cheap! Cheaper still on sale

Those are sale prices but so what?
Buy a lot of what is on sale and freeze it.
I worked in grocery stores for 4 years back in the 68-72
Chickens on sale then were .29 now on sale .69
Round steak on sale then .99 now 1.69
8 pack of bottled pepsi .99
[I can sing the ad if you want. Pepsi Cola's value pack puts the nickel serving back, every serving that you pour, costs a nickel not a penny more]
6 pack of cans 1.25 today - Cans of pop 30 yrs ago more expensive than today $1.59-$1.79
[Per oz price little more than doubled in 30 yrs but you had to bring the bottles back]

In 25 years price of meat has doubled perhaps
OK bread was .19 a loaf on sale and now is over $1

All in all I would say food has AT MOST tripled in 30+ years.
I do not know about you but I consider that an enormous bargain. What have land prices done in 30 years? Cars? Houses?
FOOD IS CHEAP if you have any clues whatsoever how to shop

Now if you like ribeye steaks or fresh king crab and do not buy them on sale, yes perhaps food does seem expensive.
BTW - Since it is valentines day and I did not plan ahead I probably am going to pay out the nose when I go out today for a couple of steaks.
