I said that you could not dismiss Paul Krugman that easily. His background does not suggest that he argues from a simple frame of reference.

1 - Actually it does. He is one of the most partisan commentators of our time, at least if you only count people who have a good sized audience.

2 - His background isn't at issue. He could be the most wise, educated and benevolent man to ever exist or he could be stupid and evil, either way his logic and arguments stand or fall on their own. His background only matters if you are trying to get others to accept an argument from authority, to suggest that he is right because he is highly educated in relevant areas to the issue at hand.

LindyBill's statements where about Paul Krugman's statements. Analysis of Krugman's background can not refute or effectively answer Bill's post.

"More than half of the benefits from this backdoor tax cut would go to people with incomes of more than a million dollars; 97 percent would go to people with incomes exceeding $200,000."

Is meaningful in the context of Class warfare, or in the context of a belief that anything that can be said to help the rich while hurting the poor is wrong. Krugman may have his facts right. Certainly his background shows that he should have the ability to get his facts right (whether or not he chooses to use it), but even if we assume his facts are 100% correct they only have impact if you also assume that the "rich vs. poor" argument they relate to is important and relevant.
