How do you know this? Frankly, a $1/gallon tax on gasoline, is a very regressive tax. Now that doesn't necessarily mean we should do it - but don't minimize the cost. The tax hits the lower middle class and the working poor, particularly those with small children, the hardest. SUVs and minivans are so popular, because with today's safety laws, it is very difficult to have two small children and put them in a standard midsized "family car". Such a tax could very well destroy any chance for many in the working class and lower middle class to ever own a home.
