kryptonic6 .. I think this is the main point in your post .. What are the chances of overcoming the massive social and political opposition that this change will encounter at every step along the way, from both industry and ordinary people that simply don't want change (or don't understand the need for it)? Peak Oil isn't a 'cliff' .. as prices rise, certain activities will be become non-economic/sustainable ( no more Sunday drives <g> ) .. Several strategies come to mind .. More telecommuting for instance .. wider use of plug-in hybrid electrics operating in all electric mode for local driving ( which most of us do ie. less than 30 miles per day ) .. use of incentives promoting known conservation/efficiency methods for vehicles/appliances/space heating/cooling etc .. Over time it all adds up to help ease the transition from fossil fuels to something else .. Triff ..
