I suspected this is what you had in mind. You do not have a rational view of hypocrisy. Keyes would have been hypocritical had he publicly said "If I had a homosexual daughter, I would tell her she is in sin, etc." and then privately acted otherwise. That is hypocrisy and Keyes obviously has done no such thing. He has clearly denounced his daughter's perversion and with such earnestness that she has separated herself from him, even publicly.
Hypocrisy cannot be found here at all. Keyes was under no obligation, moral, logical or otherwise, to disclose his circumstances as a matter of fact during his impromptu comments. Doing so would have distracted attention from the larger issues of the moral condemnation of homosexuality and his own senatorial campaign. Had he said "my daughter is a sodomite", then that would have become the story and he undoubtedly wanted to avoid this to maintain focus on his views. There is no hypocrisy here at all.
Moreover, Keyes likely wished to avoid being the person to officially "out" his own daughter, who at the time had not seen fit to do it herself. I think hackers had broken into her website to expose images she had of herself and her sodomite friend, but up to that time the daughter herself had not outted herself. Keyes spoke hypothetically to show that under no circumstance, not even in the case of his own daughter, would he shy away from a proper condemnation of homosexuality. He obviously has held true to his convictions. There is not even the smallest shred of hypocrisy here. |
