A great pitcher can pitch a no hitter in the world series, then watch as his team loses the next four games and goes home a loser.
If he can pitch well on short rest he can pitch in three games. One of which would be in the next four. A great QB can make outstanding throws that get dropped by his recievers, can watch as his RB fumbles the ball, can get hit by a blitzer or one of the DLs that his line doesn't even slow down, or can sit on the bench while the opposing offense stuffs it down the throat of his teams defense.
Do I think Brady is better than Manning? That's like asking me if Montana was better than Marino.
A little bit. And I won't argue against you if you pick Brady over Manning but do you think Brady is obviosly better and a lot better? Was Griese the best QB the Dolphins ever had? Where Dan Fouts and Archie Manning and Fran Tarkenton people you wouldn't want on your team? Would you want Doug Williams, Trent Dilfer, Mark Rypien, Brad Johnson or Jim McMahon instead? Was Elway a better QB in his last two years than in the rest of his career. If Norwood had made the kick would your opinion of Jim Kelly be much better, and was Hostetler the better QB because of Norwoods miss? Or if one Superbowl can be a fluke and you need more than one win for greatness was Bradshaw and Plunkett not just better QBs than Marino, Fouts, Tarkenton, Warren Moon but head and shoulders above all of them? |
