There really is no comparison with pitchers.

Pitchers in a single series might even have more influence. Dominating three times in a seven game series is at least comparable. True the pitcher can't hit (well in theory NL pitchers can) and won't pitch every inning, but while he is pitching, if he is really on he has more influence over a game than just about any position in any major team sport.

So, as I said earlier, I believe Marino is probably the best passer of all time, but he lacked the intangibles it takes to be successful in the biggest games.

I think he lacked the team to be successful in the biggest games, except for maybe in the 84 season and than he ran in to Montana who was arguably an even better QB and had a better team as well.
