To say that because we are over-extended now, there will be no reaction if we become much more over-extended is the mindset that got us in this mess.

Its also a statement or a mindset that has nothing to do with anything I said. We are arguably overextended in one way now, if we make the change we will be overextended to the same degree in a different way. If changing how we are extended wakes people up to the fact than it might change interest rates. If OTOH people are already aware of our governments obligations than interest rates should not be significantly affected by the move.
