Something I noticed awhile back while looking at photos of the WTC steel is the apparent lack of stress on the bolt holes. A couple of photos I grabbed as quick examples:

wtc.nist.gov

911research.wtc7.net

As I understand the method used to put the towers together, the 4 holes at the top and bottom of each perimeter box column are bolt holes to connect the columns together. I seem to recall reading some place that the bolts used were fairly high tensile strength. The base of the columns and the 4 holes, in all the photos I've seen, look to be in pretty nice shape considering the amount of shear force involved.

I don't know what, if anything, it means, but I can't help but think that enough force to shear the bolts, would also tend to deform the holes and the metal around the holes.

Thoughts anyone?
