From the photos I've seen, there's a rectangular hole near the ends which I assume is for access to the bolts. You can see it in some of the links I posted. One column in the NIST photo, toward the top right, shows what appears to be a couple nubs of the bolts sticking out.

I honestly don't know if it means anything or not. It's just something I noticed and couldn't figure out why all the bottoms of the columns look so perfect. If the force of the collapses was pushing the columns sideways from the top down, I'd kind of expect to see the bottoms bowed outward, along with maybe some places where the bolt heads pulled all the way through. For as good as the bottoms look in some of the photos, it doesn't look like any bolts were there to break, or else they were made of the lowest grade steel imaginable. Hard saying.
