The absurdity is how we're spending our money, not the focus on defense by itself. I think F-22 stealth fighters are cool, but we really ought to scale back on that and focus on personnel, special forces, and top-down intelligence reform. Our troops in Iraq don't have enough armor? OK then, let's cancel a few contracts with some defense contractors and use the money for more armor.

For someone who doesn't know shit about the military, you sure have a lot of opinions. The Clinton administration created the sophisticated weapons systems that allowed bush to destroy two countries in mere weeks. JDAMs, unmanned armed drones, GPS guided munitions and missiles and the general modernity of today's military are the work of Gen Shalikashvili and the Clinton administration.

Now, admittedly the Clinton administration never envisioned that we would invade and occupy two countries with near zero help from the ROW, after a torough job of alienating everyone.

It is also true, that the bush administration, orchestrators of this fiasco, never imagined that it would have to occupy an insurgent Iraq for two years and no end in sight. You may recall the many claims of swift and glorious victory.

Today's military is a near broken force. Talk about stuff you know something about.
