F5's BIG-IP v9 Beats the Competition and Wins Editor's Choice Award
from Network Computing

CMP Media Awards F5 with Purchase Order upon Stellar Review of BIG-IP
Application Switch; BIG-IP product exceeded CMP's real-world requirements and hailed for its iRules flexibility, performance and
intuitive interface

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 2005--F5 Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:FFIV), the global leader in Application Traffic Management, today announced that its BIG-IP v9 product has emerged at the head of the pack, taking Network Computing Magazine's Editor's Choice Award in a competitive round up against NetScaler, Nortel, Array and Sun Microsystems. The test was a real-world review -- using CMP Media's actual requirements -- in order to give CMP the detailed analysis necessary to choose the best switch for its infrastructure. Based upon the results of this review, CMP gave F5 a purchase order for BIG-IP Application Switches. CMP Media, LLC is the parent company of Network Computing Magazine.
"This outstanding recognition from one of the industry's most respected testing labs is a true testament to BIG-IP's features, flexibility and performance leadership," said Jason Needham, Director of Product Management at F5 Networks. "F5's focus on application performance, flexibility and usability is based on inputs we've received from our customers' real world needs and implementations and their importance is reflected in this review."
The reviewers at Network Computing's Real-World Labs(R) built their test environment to mirror CMP's hosting environment and used CMP-provided web content. As part of the testing, they required that each device be configured to route the traffic in the same way that CMP's current system works. According to the review, "We liked being able to easily route traffic based on header or payload and to perform actions based on these, as well as internal counters, like CPU or memory. F5 has always been a bit ahead of the game in terms of its rules capability, but it's really blown past the pack with this release."
Network Computing also praised the BIG-IP product's new interface, citing it as the most intuitive and navigable. CMP's Internet Technologies Group was wowed by the flexibility of F5's new iRules and the BIG-IP product's ability to inspect, transform and route traffic based on any bit in the payload. In addition, BIG-IP v9 emerged as the clear leader when Network Computing evaluated how overall performance affected latency. Their testing proved that BIG-IP handled the load the best with latency about 4 times lower than any other device tested. To read the complete review by Network Computing, go to f5.com.
