you'd rather have the money in your paycheck for other essentials. Like liquor. Most decide to "self insure," if they don't have a health plan. What you need then is insurance for accidents. It's nice to have the whole package, but not as big a deal. The fact that everybody knows they can walk into the ER at a hospital and get treated stops even that from being bought.
