I think most of these articles tend to underestimate the extent to which men really do help.... maybe not in the exact way they would if they were mindreaders, but in ways that their fathers were not expected to. I know in our house I am happy to do lots of stuff with our 4 kids, but where I draw the line is this:

There is this weekly anxiety that descends on Monday evening, because on Tuesday morning THE CLEANING PEOPLE ARE COMING. And, therefore, on Monday evening we have to ..... "clean up the house for the cleaning people." I pretty much refuse to help in that endeavor. I am thinking .... WTF are we hiring them for, if we have to clean up for them?

In talking to other Dads, I find I am not alone in dealing with this bizarre compulsion to straighten up the house before the cleaning crew arrives. It seems like such total nonsense to me. Now I just try to go out on Monday nights.
