If you take the time to read about the methodology on the website, you'll discover that the professor who created the Political Compass went to great pains to make a tool that is universal and definitely not country specific. So, Peter is not right, and you're veering dangerously into the realm of being lulled by his ignorance.

Re: Tony Blair, Schroeder, Kerry and Bush are all on the right above the center line and are clumped near each other. I have to disagree with that assessment. I see considerable difference in their political POVs.

what I see is that there is considerable distance between Gerhard Schoeder and George Bush.
For an example, until his position on the war in Iraq, I had felt that I was politically aligned with Tony Blair.........I agreed with many of the stances he was taking in the UK. I certainly felt comfortable with Kerry's position on many issues. Yet, both men are shown to be far more authoritarian and right of center than I. In fact, they are shown to be in political alignment with Chirac who definitely is considered right of center.
Meanwhile, I am left of center and a libertarian........not by a lot.....but in comparison, the gap is huge. It may be that the way the chart measures a politician's position is at fault, or Kerry and Blair are able to deceive many of us with their true political identity. Certainly, I am not the only one who has thought Blair and Kerry were left of center.
