Standish has been around for quite a while. There is an interesting set of relationships here, though. As dpiX has been spooling up their very high resolution LCD plant in Palo Alto, Standish has been a working partner, assembling many of dpiX's glass substrates into working LCDs (particularly the large ones). Meanwhile, Planar has a business relationship with dpiX wherein Planar packages dpiX LCDs into display modules for military avionic displays. Also, Planar has some other LCD technologies (color shutter and such). I'd guess that the Standish acquisition offers them a lower cost production arm for a number of products that are particularly cost sensitive. Planar continues to make moves and acquisitions that move them along toward an increasingly strong position as a whole-cloth display house.
