What I believe Dr. Campbell is saying is that people can dramatically improve their own health by adapting a plant-based diet when he makes this statement. That is the main thesis of his belief, supported by decades of research:

"The hope that genetic research will eventually lead to drug cures for diseases ignores more powerful solutions that can be employed today."

Why is it self-serving and gratuitous? Do you have any understanding of what you are (mis)quoting? Like what is even being discussed?
