Taro,
I am a Centrist! I just took the compass test and scored x,y = +2.5, -2.7! Puts me right there close to the center in Q2. Maybe Ali was right when he once called me a "closet liberal" for being strongly against capital punishment.
Center is 0,0. How is a plus 2.5 and a minus 2.7 centrist.
Now again, I am old enough to remember how the political landscape looked like back in the 50s and 60s. The liberals back then in the UK as in most places in Europe were definitely located on the right side somewhere in Q3. When somebody calls one "a liberal" in the US today, that means in a Volvo and somewhere to the left. I have a problem believing that you as a liberal see yourself to the right. But I may be wrong and if so is the case I take that back and excuse myself.
I never said I was right. I scored around -1.5, -4.
But having now learned that you are a (self declared) political scientist I will pay more attention to your opinions and be your humble student for some time and stick to what I know real well like everybody else on this thread.
No need for the humility. I just don't like a misrepresentation of the facts. This weekend's parade by the skins was not the first time I have heard of them. They have become a real problem ever since the wall fell in the early 90s. I had thought they were losing power but the march this weekend would suggest otherwise. There is nothing socialistic about them with the exception that they want to go back to the old GDR when they were guaranteed work and more importantly, a weekly salary. However, that is not what I call socialism but rather the unique arrangement that developed under the Soviet Union from their interpretation of communism.
Under Marx, in theory full employment was to be reached because the workers would control production. And since they controlled production, they would never produce more than what was needed by the general population and thus would never pay themselves more than what they were worth. Under the Soviet Union, there was no relationship between supply and demand nor between the level of production and wages. Wages, production and supply remained static no matter what demand was. Consequently, everything got out of kilter and by the time everyone got done skimming any profits, there was no money left for new equipment or innovation. Eventually, the whole system ground to a halt and the wall fell.
That's the kind of system the skinheads want to go back to.......not communism, not socialism but a perverted kind of system where an oligarchy of the rich and powerful rule and everyone beneath them spends a lot of time maintaining the status guo.
Karl Marx must have rolled over in his grave a number times during the twentieth century.
