There is more than one way to measure offense. One is by the impact on the offended.

Far from demanding the evidence, the women mathematicians didn't want to discuss the evidence. They just got the vapors and began hyperventilating to the press.

I don't recall a whole lot of inquiry about evidence in the Eason matter. Yep, Barney Frank asked. But the overwhelming reaction was that the charge was ridiculous on its face--end of inquiry. Even my simple question on this thread about the theoretical possibility that it was true was swarmed. That is significantly different from hyperventilation how? Seems to me that the two cases are more alike than different.
