One problem I see in the local public schools is a fairly wide range of pay between starting teachers pay (fresh out of college) and the pay for 20+ years of experience. Both perform essentially the same job, but the pay differential can approach 3x. In the commercial world, one tends to move upward during ones career, which arguably justifies increased pay. But for most teaching positions, this does not happen. Starting salaries need to be increased IMO to attract good talent.
