If Lawrence H. Summers loses his job for the crime of positing a politically incorrect hypothesis -- or even if he pays some lesser price for it -- the chilling effect on free inquiry will harm everyone. They have this all wrong. This has nothing to do with free inquiry. The question really is about: "How Much Ignorance can a University President Exhibit?" There is no one researching or is capable of researching a link between the gene that determines sex and genes that determine intelligence of any kind (musical, mathematical, verbal, whatever). No one is stopping any one from such research.
