jrhana, that piece you put up said, "The government of Venezuela's dictator Hugo Chavez..."

Such a description of a freely elected and majority supported Chavez as a dictator should have clued you in that the whole story is a far right wing piece of trash. Chavez is not a dictator, though much of the North American press and Venezuela's "old money" want him viewed that way. While Chavez may at times talk as a leftist for the political support of the majority, he does not attempt leftist changes in the government. In fact, he is responsible for creating Venezuela's current constitution, one that includes more personal liberties and (freedom of the press) than ever existed in that country prior to his election. Where he is reviled, it is because he has the courage to stand against the former oligarchy, and North American oil interests.

You might be staying away from Venezuela, but foreign direct investment is as robust as ever.
