"Confidants usually keep their mouths shut unless something is done which pisses them off and they decide to yap."

My point. Wead is yapping because the True Believers are trying to shut him up. Wead doesn't believe they are realistic. They certainly aren't grounded in his religion.

Why would he betray Bush? To break the myth the TBers have developed around him?

"Have a feeling I am going to regret hearing the name."

You will. Don't confuse them with the fundies. Sure, there is a great degree of overlap, but the TB's don't let little things like their religion stand in the way. They are the ones with fascism on their minds. And the Repukes are the ones that tend to fall in that category.

I did a google......is this what you mean by True Believers:

the true-believer syndrome

This is why I say dissent is extremely important right now. It may not be the thing that actually turns the tide, but it keeps the issue on the table. You and AmyJ are the ones that have to convince the genJones that this is important. They are fairly soft, but you have to approach this issue from more than idealogical grounds. Ideals are great, but they are mutable. We saw that with the boomers. When you have someone like Jerry Rubin pimping for Wall Street, you know that anyone can sell out. Once convinced, their numbers can swing any issue. And they should relish the opportunity to actually do something other than sit on the sidelines.

The problem is that many people are leading their lives and developing their careers. While recent events are disturbing, people keep telling themselves its business as usual. That's why I worry that Americans will wake up when its too late.
