The grocer is so far removed from where
the food is grown...

<sensitive and thinking>

I think I'm like most people--sensitive to
things that are close to me, family and
friends, local events and such. But when
things are far removed from your world,
it is very easy to maintain emotional
detatchment. It's probably hard coded--
a person would go insane if he were completely
sympathetic to everything he heard or saw.

Not saying there isn't a nobler better way
of living. I just don't get too worked up
about suffering, human or animal. Global
warming doesn't scare me. To be honest,
the 7 teradollar US debt does not keep me
up at night. Maybe Avian flu burns out
after only killing a few tens of thousands,
maybe it is gone even sooner than that?

But I'm not an expert, and ignorance is bliss.

The biggest problems in my life are the common
cold and the neighbor's barking dogs. It's enough.

<Avian flu world's No. 1 threat>
What happened to global warming and terrorism?
And for a day, there was even an asteroid that
was a threat. Statistically, humans probably
have 5000 years to go. It's enough.
