ACC and Telexis Incorporate Ethernet Router Functionality
Into Video Transmission Unit

Newbridge Affiliates Unveil Ground Breaking Video Monitoring Products

OTTAWA, Sept. 3 /CNW-PRN/ - Newbridge(R) affiliates Telexis Corporation, of Ottawa,
Canada, and Advanced Computer Communications Corporation (ACC), of Santa Barbara,
California, have collaborated to produce the newest members of Telexis' ViaNet(TM) line of video
monitoring products. The VTU-E (Video Transmission Unit - Ethernet) enables the transmission
of video over Ethernet local area networks (LANs), and the VTU-ER (Video Transmission Unit -
Ethernet Router) features an integrated router that transmits video and data streams over Ethernet
LANs.

The addition of the VTU-E to the ViaNet product line enables organizations to introduce
video-based remote site surveillance capabilities to their existing Ethernet data networks with
minimal additional investment. The VTU-E plugs directly into any Ethernet port, allowing video
to be transmitted to a central monitoring location over local and wide area networks from hundreds
of geographically remote locations. For organizations with surveillance requirements at several
remote sites, ViaNet is a more cost-effective approach than traditional closed-circuit television
(CCTV) video surveillance systems, which offer local site monitoring only. The VTU-ER provides
added functionality in a product that is not offered by any other company today: it incorporates an
integral router, so that organizations can use a single unit for both video transmission and data
routing over their networks.

To extend the operation of ViaNet to Ethernet LANs, Telexis looked to the LAN expertise of ACC,
who provided the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) code and the ACC router code
to incorporate the functionality of a router, as well as SNMP management capability, into Telexis'
VTU. SNMP management capability provides corporations with remote access to network
statistics, alarms and system configuration.

``With the advantage of proven technology and LAN expertise from ACC, Telexis has developed a
product that is scalable and manageable, enabling large corporations to have full network control of
their security operations from a central site, and a smooth upgrade path with minimal incremental
costs,'' said Eli Fathi, President, Telexis Corporation. ``The affiliation with Newbridge not only
provides Telexis access to Newbridge markets worldwide, but also to the growing number of
affiliate companies with synergistic technological skills.''

The ViaNet Monitoring System is ideal for security monitoring companies and large organizations
such as banks, retailers, utilities, traffic and transport agencies and healthcare institutions. Since
ViaNet also integrates readily with any Newbridge network, Newbridge customers can offer video
monitoring services over their existing voice and data networks.

The benefits of the Telexis ViaNet System are:

- Better use of resources. Video is transmitted when an alarm is
triggered, so constant surveillance is not required. This saves money
on security personnel and eliminates the need for outside guard tours.
Verification of alarms by video promotes more informed alarm response
and reduces the number of fines due to false alarms.
- Improved employee and public safety. Employees at remote locations can
trigger an alarm when in danger or to establish a connection with the
monitoring station when the situation warrants.
- Reduced security breaches and vandalism. Two-way audio allows a
security official at the monitoring station to send audible warnings
to potential intruders and vandals.

Telexis Corporation (http://www.telexiscorp.com) delivers expertise in networked video
worldwide. The ViaNet(TM) system allows video-monitoring services to be carried seamlessly
over a wide range of communications networks, including ISDN, Ethernet, the Public Switched
Telephone Network (PSTN), and satellite and wireless transmission links. Telexis is an affiliate of
Newbridge Networks Corporation.

ACC (http://www.acc.com) is a leading manufacturer of integrated remote access and
internetworking products that provide cost-effective solutions for the home, office and enterprise.
ACC leads the industry in the development of bandwidth optimization technologies to maximize
the utilization of leased lines and switched services. ACC is an affiliate of Newbridge Networks
Corporation.
