You may have missed some of the other reasons Grainne has given for not eating meat.

I am aware of and sympathetic to the various good reasons for not eating meat including the belief that it is morally wrong. My point is that it is not feasible to get the world to stop eating meat, at least not any time soon. It may be feasible, though, to dramatically reduce the suffering, which continues only marginally abated by campaigns to stop eating meat. Stopping the suffering is a worthwhile objective even though only a half measure. And it may just be doable. When faced with darkness, I favor candle lighting.

You might as well say to a Christian, would it not be more effective to put your primary emphasis on the Koran?

I think it's more like saying to a Christian, if you can't end all sin in the world, why not focus on ending the ones you can.
