She's actually for Civil Unions, but not for Gay Marriage. She claims that the word Marriage is reserved for heterosexual unions.

That's a similar stance that Kerry took in the campaign. He said he was for Civil Unions, but against Gay Marriage. I'm not sure what the difference is, unless it's a sanctification by the church. I always thought it was Kerry's way of staying closer to Bush's support of the amendment to the constitution forbidding Gay Marriage.

In that respect the Civil Union would carry all the same legal ramifications as the Marriage, but Marriage would be reserved to for the Church to decide upon. In other words the Government would be getting out of the Marriage business, and into the Civil Union business. Marriage licenses would be given by the Church and Civil Union licenses would be issued by the Government.

It all boils down to a case of semantics if you ask me. What is the difference in a name if the legal rights and responsibilities are the same?
