I could live with that, as apparently many could. However, I do not believe it gets to the heart of the religious rights' argument. They believe that the family unit is being destroyed by homosexuals who are attempting to promote the 'gay agenda', which apparently involves seducing and converting all of America's youth to their evil lifestyle, resulting in the subsequent destruction of the human race because there would be no procreation.

I don't think this argument is over the semantics of marriage, but is an attempt by the religious fanatics to roll back rights for homosexuals. However, if it were framed in those naked terms, many moderates would be reluctant to join their side. So, instead, they wrap their homophobia up in some grandiose 'defense of marriage' charade.

The problem with conservatives is that they see only their side. The problem with liberals is that they see everyone's side. Time for liberals to stop being so understanding, and start standing up for basic rights.
