Good point.

Due to the poor architecture of the Xenon, it takes a 100million $$ 3 years-to-develop chipset to deliver an 8% performance boost over a chipset less glueless Opteron- that will soon scale to 16 way glueless.

If HP really fielded a competitive product based on the dual core 8 socket (16 way) technology, I doubt that IBM would ever recover their 100 million!

Plus we still have to see what Horus and Bechtolshiem (SUN) have to offer. Since they are working on high performance Opteron platform solutions, I presume they expect more than a 8% performance boost. Xenon is and has been toast. The only reason it still survives is because Intel has had a 12+ year lead in getting entrenched in this market. It's like a boxing match between a 12 year old and a 2 year old- and the 12 year old is bragging about winning a round on points.
