Rink You know as well as anyone else here that Potomacs won't nearly get as much of a speed up as plain vanilla 1MB Xeons because the more cache is on the cpu the less speed up the system gets from next level (e.g. L4) cache in the chipset. This is a silly argument. The fact is that ondie L3 will always be faster than going off die. The L4 will be less of a boost to Potomac compared to plain vanilla Xeons. Nevertheless, the cost of the processors is a small fraction of the overall system cost so I would expect them to add Potomac when it becomes available. You can cry victory, but there is none. It's more important for me to point out that those here who claimed Opteron would blow away Xeon were a bit overly optimistic. There are still more surprises to come.
