"But now, in the last several decades, the Democrats have become increasingly uncomfortable with the language of religion, faith – even values sometimes – and they sound very secular. They even sound, to many, hostile to religion."

He seems like a good guy but by dividing people into the right and the left he loses all credibility, imo. He isn't so much interested in eliminating division as he is in feeding off of it.

The idea that many Americans are uncomfortable with faith is a myth. What many Americans are uncomfortable with is accepting myth as truth. The first woman was not fashioned out of Adam's rib. Noah's Ark never existed. God never made a deal with the devil over Job. Moses never parted the Red Sea.

With respect to matters of genuine spirituality, as opposed to myth-making, the people on the "left" are not only comfortable with it, but seek it out in ways that those on the "right" will never understand. They are far more open to matters of spirituality.

I had dinner with a friend who is a serious Catholic recently, and he was shocked that I was not only familiar with the Gospels and many other parts of the Bible, but had read them all more than once. Duh ... like I'm not going to read the King James version of the Bible before reading Alan Watts or Carlos Castenada.
