It seems to me that Bush is being very quickly ushered to the lame duck section by his fellow Republicans. Quite a few of them want nothing to do with destroying Social Security. I'm not sure what this European trip was supposed to accomplish, but all it's really done is show once again that Europe is a huge "blue state", and THIS President isn't going to be able to get much of anything out of them.
What could he have done? A President that can admit mistakes might say, multi-party talks are what we're going with in Korea, why not join the Europeans in talking with Iran? A smarter President would have been ambivalent twoard the Koyoto accords, going ahead with talks about how to reduce greenhouse emissions, and letting the blame for not ratifying it fall to Congress. Too bad we've got an egotistical, inflexible, idiot in charge.
Bush is even having trouble hanging on to the "accomplishments" he's already racked up. There is talk from Republicans as well as Democrats about undoing No Child Left Behind and the Medicare Drug Benefit, both of which are looking like huge, expensive failures.
