TVI Corporation Donates Shelters to Aid Tsunami Relief Tuesday February 22, 4:19 pm ET INMED Partnerships for Children to Facilitate Logistics for Shelters in Sri Lanka
GLENN DALE, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 22, 2005--TVI Corporation (NASDAQ: TVIN - News), a global supplier of rapidly deployable first responder systems for homeland security, hospitals, police and fire departments, the military and public health agencies, today announced that the Company has donated 30 rapid deployment shelters to support the Tsunami relief efforts in Sri Lanka. "We're thrilled to receive these shelters, which will house hundreds of people immediately and many more in the months ahead," said Dr. Linda Pfeiffer, President/CEO of INMED Partnerships for Children, a nonprofit global organization dedicated to fostering communities' ability to develop healthy, educated children with increased opportunities for the future. "Anyone involved in this type of relief work realizes what a critical role these rapid deployment shelters can play. These shelters will serve as homes for families in some of the most remote areas, where home reconstruction frequently requires more time and the elements can be most harsh."
TVI's rapid deployment shelters are an ideal fit for disaster relief efforts because they are easy to transport and deploy, extremely mobile and can withstand severe climate and other environmental conditions. In addition to providing much needed housing for survivors, the shelters are readily and highly adaptable and are expected to be reused for additional needs such as housing medical teams and providing medical services.
"We're happy to play a small role in aiding the global response to this devastating situation," said Rick Priddy, President and CEO of TVI Corporation. "By working closely with the dedicated and highly competent team at INMED, we are confident these shelters will be used to their fullest potential."
As part of its donation, TVI personnel held a one-day training session at INMED's headquarters for employees to familiarize them with the shelters. The shelters, along with other critically needed medical supplies, should arrive in Sri Lanka by March 3, 2005.
