Well
since you ask
he didn't drink blood

are you absolutely certain about that?

i mean just how rare did he enjoy all of that meat meat meat he consumed for years?

<g>

seriously though

i'm not advocating a diet high in saturated fat

what i am trying to get across is that i don't think animal fat is the main culprit wrt heart disease

there is a large constellation of factors, not the least of which are the plant based oils which are ubiquitous in manufactured foods..

the problem with the western diet as i see it is

1. too much sugar (in the form of refined carbs)

2. too much fat (of the bad variety, not enough of the good)

3. too little exercise

4. too much food in general (portions are excessively large)

the operative word is "too"

it is out of balance

i believe in moderation

so i will have my steak once a week

and no food nazi myth mongering will change my approach

unfortunately neither you nor i can pick our parents

my father died of cancer in his 70's

but he smoked

and his diet?

his favorite 'snack' was rye bread, with a thick spreading of real butter, topped with a slice of cheese

and he was thin as a rail....not an ounce of fat on him

never took an 'aerobics' class

he ate plenty of meat, vegetables too, drank milk, alcohol...the only thing i can remember about what he seemed to eschew was sweets, though i remember him taking us out for ice cream once a week and he would indulge

as for the masai?

i only point them out to counter that singularly animal fats do not seem to be the main culprit of disease in the western diet....way too simplistic to make that argument
