That's the pattern that John Train assumed in his book "Preserving Capital and Making it Grow." The pattern did not hold up very well 1992-2004, mostly because every time a correction seemed likely to take hold, the Fed extended more and more credit, or encouraged its extension. It might be about to reestablish itself with a vengeance.
