I ALWAYS tear up these checks before discarding them.

Or were yours stolen before you got them.

To be fair to the card companies -- they were helpful when a merchant made an unauthorized charge on my card in 2003. And they also did not give any problems when an identity thief charged several thousand dollars to my account some years ago.

But I wonder if they would be as helpful if a similar incident was to occur today.
