Well, yes, Rambi, I heard similar news from my own pediatrician re shoes. My daughter went barefoot totally until she started walking, and barefoot whenever she was at home after that. But we did buy her shoes once she started walking based on his advice, so that she did not slice her little wide adorable feet to ribbons on asphalt, or step on used hypodermic needles at the park.

I must admit I was totally obsessed with her little shoes. We got hooked on French orthopedic toddler shoes that cost an arm and a leg even in the mid '80's. Being a stay-at-home mom, I had plenty of time just to look at them and rub them gently. They were so soft and beautiful and healthy.

I want to live in the forest and wear only moccasins for the rest of my life, walking so quietly the birds will not notice me and fly away, startled. It is strange how much my goals have changed.
