What I find interesting is that people are so ready to gloss over an obvious trend in modern politics (no, I'm not "letting anyone off the hook" - it is and always has been wrong for the government to be subversively peddling its policies at state expense). Doesn't classic conservatism involve small government and protections of states' rights anymore? We have a federal government on a power binge. It seems that some people will need to lose their democratic processes to an increasingly deceptive and deceitful government until we are a democracy no more. When "puppet" reporters can pose as legitimate reporters and get equal time and even preference, there is no check on the seats of power. Maybe that's the real agenda - create a fascist greed-based government that only values those with money. We are well on the way, I guess.
