I don't think it was a profound statement but John said it was wrong. (literally he just said "no" but it means that he was saying my statement was wrong). If someone says what you say is wrong do you only defend it if you think your statement was greatly profound?

Where does the money come from in that case? The rest of your budget of course. So what?

So what in the case of social security means that an enormous amount of money is going to have go from general taxes to social security recipients starting in less than 15 years. This would be bad enough itself but also you have a similar situation that is going to happen with Medicare. Together the costs are probably unsustainable. Getting out of Iraq and trimming away a carrier battle group or an Army brigade, and maybe canceling the F-22 isn't going to cover it. Trimming non-defense discretionary funds probably isn't going to net enough either. Some sort of reduction in growth of benefits from Social Security and/or Medicare is probably going to be needed.
