z, Is there any indication that people are getting drugs and procedures they don't need on a grand scale? If that's the case (and I don't think it is), then it's the fault of the doctors, not the health insurance system. The doctors should not recommend what a patient doesn't need. Yeah, like anytime a consumer comes to a business waving dollars and business not allowing to spend the dollars. Unfortunately, the opposite is true. The businesess (doctors) are doing what all business try to do: increase revenue. The difference is that everywhere else, there is a check on the system, consumers' willing to spend only so much. In health care, this check does not exist. As far as patients receiving unnecessary treatment? Absolutely, IMO on massive scale. What is there so stop them, since they are not spending their own money? Joe
