Do you ever operate from any position other than fear? The two situations are no where near analogous. However, there is little reason to post the differences because there is no way you will ever change your position........mainly because fear is a great motivator.
Could it be that I have more experience with what happens when things go wrong?
Maybe if the US spend 3% on defense in 1940 and before (instead of much less than that), maybe there would not be a WWII, maybe the outcome would be a lot different, such as the US being better prepared, beating Hitler much more easily, possibly liberating Eastern Europe rather than Soviet Union "liberating" it, possibly resulting in > 50M people not spending 45 years behind iron curtain, which could possible mean that there would be no ambitious Soviet Union, but rather isolated, inward looking island off Communism, possibly averting the 45 year Cold War all together...
Oh, please, utter nonsense. First of all, Hitler had no intention of stopping. His manifest destiny was the world. Nothing would have deterred him. He believed in German superiority and his genius.
Secondly, by the time we entered the war, American war industries had been producing weapons for Europe for a couple of years. Of course, those numbers are not reflected in the federal budget of 1940 because the weapons were being produced by private industries to be sold to European nations and not to the feds. The US had little problem converting to the war effort. In fact, when the war started, we had considerable factory space sitting around vacant from the depression.
However, like I said, the two situations are not nearly analogous. Flash forward to 2004.......we are spending 6 times what are nearest competitor is spending on defense. Its out of control.......the right's paranoia is out of control. We are the world's only super power and we are spending as if Hitler has reincarnated and getting ready to attack. Sheer madness!
