Secondly, by the time we entered the war, American war industries had been producing weapons for Europe for a couple of years.

A lot of what US made was a joke, junk compard to what Germany had. The rate of improvement in technology was almost miraculous over the shor timespan of the war. I think it would be a good idea to be prepared next time and not hoping for miracles.

What we may have sold you and are level of technology at the time were two different things. You don't go from nothing to the atomic bomb in 4 years.

However, like I said, the two situations are not nearly analogous. Flash forward to 2004.......we are spending 6 times what are nearest competitor is spending on defense. Its out of control.......

And how much does that nearest competitor spend to field one infantryman? How does that compare with, say, cost of dental insurance for a US soldier?

Give it a rest. The damn right is out of control. They have never seen a defense budget too big. Its an obsession. It would be cheaper to get you all into shrinks.
